Libra de Facebook, PayPal se retire du projet

Le porte-parole de la société PayPal a déclaré que leur société « avait décidé de renoncer à toute participation » au projet de cryptographie initié par Facebook, pour continuer services financiers pour les populations mal desservies. « 

Dans sa déclaration il cite:

«Nous continuons d’appuyer les aspirations de la Balance et attendons avec intérêt la poursuite du dialogue sur les moyens de travailler ensemble à l’avenir. Facebook est un partenaire stratégique de longue date et de grande valeur pour PayPal, et nous continuerons à collaborer et à soutenir Facebook à divers titres. ”

De son côté, CoidDesk le porte parole de la Libra a déclaré:

 Nous pouvons confirmer que PayPal nous a informés et a l’intention de ne pas nous rejoindre 

Vendredi, Dante Disparte, responsable de la politique et de la communication de Libra Association, a déclaré dans un communiqué: « La mise en place d’un réseau de paiement moderne, peu frottant et hautement sécurisé, capable d’autonomiser des milliards de personnes mal desservies est un voyage, pas une destination. Ce voyage pour construire un réseau de paiement générationnel comme le projet Libra n’est pas une voie facile. ”

«Nous reconnaissons que le changement est difficile et que chaque organisation qui a entamé ce processus devra évaluer elle-même les risques et les avantages de s’engager à tenir le changement promis par la Balance. Nous attendons avec impatience la première réunion du Conseil de la Balance dans 10 jours et partagerons les mises à jour qui suivront, notamment les détails concernant les 1 500 entités qui ont manifesté leur intérêt à participer. « 

La nouvelle survient un jour après que le Financial Times a annoncé que PayPal était sur le point de se retirer.

Facebook vas cacher le nombre de likes sous vos publications

La découverte

Quelques mois après Instagram, ce serait bientôt au tour de Facebook de cacher le nombre de likes chez certains utilisateurs.

Selon Jane Manchun Wong Une ingénieur chevronnée qui a l’habitude de découvrir de nouvelles fonctionnalités sur les réseaux sociaux et d’en faire part qui a rapporté ce changement lundi 2 Septembre 2019.

Sur son blog, elle explique avoir découvert ce nouvel affichage dans le code de de l’application Facebook sur Android.

Celui-ci n’est pas encore actif chez les utilisateurs, mais d’après la découverte de l’ingénieure, cela devrait fonctionner de la même façon que le test actuellement en cours sur Instagram : le nombre de likes sous une publication serait uniquement affiché pour son auteur. Pour les autres utilisateurs, seule la liste des personnes ayant liké, le nombre de commentaires et de partages seraient accessibles.

Selon Jane Manchun Wong, le nombre de likes apparaît encore à côté des commentaires, mais cela pourrait s’expliquer par le fait que cette nouveauté est encore en cours de développement.

Réponse de Facebook

Interrogé par TechCrunch, Facebook confirme qu’il songe à tester la dissimulation du nombre de likes.

Sa filiale Instagram teste déjà ce changement au Canada depuis avril. En juillet, le test s’est étendu au Brésil, en Australie, Nouvelle-Zélande, Italie et au Japon. Selon TechCrunch, le fait que le réseau social se prépare déjà à étendre son test à une autre appli montre que les résultats sont positifs, et que leur impact sur la baisse d’activité des utilisateurs est négligeable.

En mai, Instagram expliquait, dans un communiqué, vouloir que “vos abonnés se concentrent sur les photos et les vidéos que vous partagez, et pas sur le nombre de likes que vos publications reçoivent”.

Dans un entretien à BuzzFeed News, le patron d’Instagram, Adam Mosseri, ajoutait que le but est de “créer un environnement moins pressurisé où les gens se sentent à l’aise pour s’exprimer”.

African startups announced to join Dubai mentorship program

Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry has selected 10 startups from Africa and UAE to participate in its Global Business Forum (GBF) Mentorship Programme which was launched as part of Africa Tech Summit Kigali, earlier this year.

Five startups from Africa will join the Dubai mentorship program, namely: FarmGate Africa, a startup using advanced technologies to connect international buyers and farming clusters; quip.link, an online marketplace for renting and selling construction equipment; Complete Farmer, a crowd-farming platform focused on building sustainable farms; Engineering Hub Ltd, a provider of IT services and solutions for mobile and banking integration platforms; and RideSafe, an mobile application offering real-time health solutions.

Prior to their selection, the 10 shortlisted startups participated in the first-ever Chamberthon which took place at Africa Tech Summit Kigali. During the Chamberthon, 20 UAE and African startups worked together to develop the structure and criteria of the GBF Mentorship Programme, highlights from the Summit in Rwanda are below.

These will join Five UAE startups, members of Dubai Startup Hub, were selected to take part in the three-month programme, namely: Evolvin Women, a startup helping unemployed women from developing countries; ORENDA+Bloom, a gender balance consultancy; Tuitify, a startup using AI and virtual reality to improve employee training and productivity; Designhubz, a SaaS platform that enables retailers and brands to sell their products in 3D; and Pixel House, a production agency offering video production, photography and branding solutions.

The selection marks the start of the second phase of the programme which involves intensive training and mentorship sessions. Following the three-month period, selected startups will be given an opportunity to participate in a session at the 5th Global Business Forum on Africa in November 2019 and exhibit during the high-level business forum in Dubai.

H.E. Hamad Buamim, President & CEO of Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry said the selection of participating startups is an important step forward in establishing bridges of communication and cross-border cooperation between UAE and African startups.  He pointed out that many of the selected startups specialise in advanced technologies, smart solutions, artificial intelligence and fintech, adding collaboration these key areas would pave the way for mutual benefits and growth for both business communities.

“Startups are playing an active role in fostering innovation as they leverage and test out cutting-edge technologies that improve the way we live and work. The GBF Mentorship Programme provides an ideal platform for high-potential startups to develop their business concepts, benefit from collaboration, access new growth opportunities through the Global Business Forum on Africa platform, and build valuable partnerships,” he said, adding that such efforts fall complement Dubai Chamber’s programmes and initiatives offered to entrepreneurs through Dubai Startup Hub.
